Sports Car Club of America has announced a new, top-level Club Racing program dubbed the “Majors,” launching as a pilot program in the Midwest, Rocky Mountain and Southwest Divisions in 2012.

Focused on providing fresh, enhanced opportunities for National-level classes within a geographical racing area, the Majors offer a new format race weekend focused on clustering competition and providing greater value for racers.

            <title>SCCA: Club Racing Board Statement on 2.5 Rules &amp;amp; Class Realignment</title>

At the December Board of Directors’ meeting in Topeka, the Board voted to suspend the 2.5 class participation rule for two seasons. They then asked the Club Racing Board to prepare a plan to actively manage the classes. They have directed that the CRB present a proposal for alignment of classes, with an overall reduction in the number of National classes. The proposed goal is 24, or less, national classes.

            <title>SCCA: Runoffs Qualification Process Amended</title>

The SCCA Board of Directors has amended the process in which invitations for the Club Racing National Championship Runoffs are determined, adding an option for those finishing eight races to the 2011 policy.

Any driver that finishes eight races in a class during the 2012 season, two of them in their division, will automatically be eligible for the National Championship Runoffs at Road America. In addition, the remaining criteria for qualification are unchanged from 2011.

The F600 committee has submitted a proposal to the SCCA Club Racing Board to have Formula 600 established as separate class for 2012.

After an initial proposal to merge F600 cars in the current Formula 500 class in SCCA competition was not approved by the Club Racing Boad, the F600 committee has elected to revise its proposal to SCCA. Sports Car Club of America, Inc. has announced the results for the four Areas holding elections for the SCCA Board of Directors. Two new members will join the SCCA Board of Directors for 2012, while two incumbents will rejoin for a second three-year term.

Robin Langlotz, of Orlando, Fla., and Michael Lewis, of Poway, Calif., ran unopposed in Area Three and Area 11, respectively, and will return to the Board as incumbents in 2012.

            <title>SCCA: Board of Directors Suspends 2.5 Rule Through 2013</title>

Sports Car Club of America’s Board of Directors have voted to suspend through the 2013 season, the rule that placed classes on probation, and ultimately eliminated them from the National racing program.

The rule (GCR item 9.1.13) states that any class averaging less than 2.5 cars per National race across all nine divisions for two consecutive seasons would be subject to either consolidation or designation as Regional-only status.
